The Optimist, affectionately known as ‘Big D’ was claimed 6 times during his intense five-year racing career. His career ended when he shattered his ankle. When he came to the TRF, he could hardly walk. But thanks to the care he received at the TRF satellite farm in South Carolina, he is still thriving and getting around as well as can be expected. When it rains, his ankle can still be bothersome, but his regular appointments with the farrier keep his feet in pretty good shape.

The Optimist is an exceptionally friendly horse, that enjoys walking around the farmhouse watching his caretakers through open windows. Unfortunately, he recently lost one of his best friends due to old age, and although he was a little depressed at first, he still has many friends to run and play with throughout the day.

We would proudly like to announce that The Optimist has been fully sponsored. We at the TRF, Thank You!
